Micromega M-Amp Solo Plexi integrated amplifier

Inspired by the Solo Plexi, the M-Amp Solo carries forward the elegance of French hi-fi design. It is also the direct successor to the M-One, preserving its musicality and performance while streamlining its architecture and maintaining the brand’s iconic aesthetic.

Micromega M-AMP SOLO: Design

The M-Amp Solo features a distinctive 35 x 35 cm square format. Its aluminum chassis has softened edges that echo the iconic lines of the original model while embracing a resolutely modern look.
The top panel is adorned with a plexiglass plate, showcasing the internal architecture.

At the center of the front panel is a large control knob used to adjust volume and navigate between sources with successive presses. A long press puts the unit into standby. A row of small white LEDs on the left indicates output level, while another on the right shows the selected source. The design is simple, clean, and highly effective. The remote control replicates these functions.

On the rear panel, the unit offers both analog and digital inputs. The Micromega M-Amp Solo includes an MM phono input (47 kohms), a line input via RCA, and digital inputs (optical, coaxial, and USB-B). It also features a sub-out (320 Hz), a pre-out, and a 6.35 mm stereo headphone output.

A dedicated slot allows the addition of an Escape M1 Air streaming module.

The speaker terminals are of high quality and accept both banana plugs and spades.

Micromega M-AMP SOLO: Technology

Amplification is based on traditional Class AB rather than digital designs used by many competitors. It delivers 2 x 85 W at 8 ohms and 2 x 105 W at 4 ohms. At its core is a robust linear power supply built around a toroidal transformer. Micromega deliberately avoids switching power supplies, favoring musicality, reliability, and sonic transparency.

The digital section is handled by the ESS ES9280AQ PRO DAC. The amplifier can include (standard or optional) the Escape M1 R streaming module (LBC USB-C version). This module manages high-resolution audio streams while leaving digital-to-analog conversion to the internal ESS DAC. This modular design ensures long-term upgradability without compromising sound quality. It supports AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and Roon.

The M-Amp Solo also includes a high-quality phono stage compatible with MM and some high-output MC cartridges (47 kohms). A built-in headphone amplifier is available via a 6.35 mm jack on the left side of the unit.

From electronic design to product styling, every stage of development was carried out in France, with CC LAB handling design and Eiffage manufacturing. Final assembly takes place in the Landes region at La Manufacture du Son, where each unit is hand-wired, tested, and listened to—ensuring quality, reliability, and durability.

Micromega M-AMP SOLO: Sound Performance

The designers focused on musicality and ease of use.
This amplifier offers no tone controls, delivering music without artificial coloration. The sound is neutral, precise, and transparent, emphasizing timbre and finesse without excessive warmth.

The soundstage is excellent, with impressive depth that enhances immersion and realism. Bass is tight and well-articulated, complementing a natural, neutral midrange and smooth yet detailed treble.

Its power and current reserve allow it to pair effectively with both bookshelf and floorstanding speakers.

Micromega’s return is clearly successful, offering a refined and well-executed product.
Its French manufacturing is also commendable in a segment where many competitors have long since moved production to Asia.
