Dynavector DV 10X5 MKII High Output MC cartridge

This Dynavector 10X5 MKII MC cartridge is the heir to a great dynasty that was created in 1978. When it was released it got the 'Engineering Award' at the Chicago CES (it wasn't in Las Vegas at the time!) and the series 2 got the same award again in 1981.

This is now the sixth upgrade and this little Dynavector is still quite a hit.

Dynavector DV 10X5 MKII: technology

The design is derived from the 'Flux damper & Softened Magnetism' patent.

The output level of 2.8 mV and impedance make it compatible with an MM phono preamplifier with at least a gain of 40 dB.

The Shibata Line contact stylus is mounted on an aluminum cantilever. Its assembly is relatively easy thanks to the threading present in the aluminum body.

Dynavector DV 10X5 MKII: listening and review

Like many high-end cartridges, this 10X5 MII needs a break-in period of several dozen hours to deliver its full potential. But after 40 or 50 hours, your patience will be rewarded.

From the opening bars, you get an amazingly precise and broad sound stage through the speakers.

The timbre is beautiful and gives the vocals and string sections a natural and vibrant edge. The bass is deep and very well articulated.

But what we liked most is the dynamics and rhythm it gives the music.

If your system is a bit dull in terms of tempo, then this Dynavector DV 10X5 MKII phono cartridge should fix this problem! We enjoyed its association with the Rega P3 and P6 turntables.
