Tannoy Stirling GR-OW tower speaker

The Tannoy Stirling GR-OW floor-standing speaker is the latest version of the legendary speaker from the Scottish manufacturer.

It of course incorporates all the know-how the brand has acquired over nearly a century, based on the 2-way concentric Hi-Fi driver in an oiled walnut cabinet with luxurious finishes.

TANNOY STIRLING GR-OW: DESIGN

The cabinet is hand-crafted from oiled walnut veneer with a solid walnut trim, offering an original and timeless design.

The high-density wood cabinet provides extreme rigidity, controlling bass performance and minimizing midrange coloration.

TANNOY STIRLING GR-OW: DRIVERS

The Tannoy Stirling GR-OW floor-standing speakers feature a new evolution of the legendary Tannoy Dual Concentric Driver. The new 10" (25.4 cm) Dual Concentric driver offers improved dispersion, with more uniform coverage in the listening environment.

This technology includes the Omnimagnet, allowing the tweeter to be placed even closer to the acoustic center of the low-frequency unit, significantly improving time alignment between the drivers.

The 10-inch driver handles a maximum power of over 300 Watts, offering incredible dynamics for a speaker of this size.

The cellulose diaphragm is equipped with a rubber surround, providing natural sound in the midrange and excellent bass extension.

The tweeter is equipped with a point source Tulip waveguide with symmetrical dispersion, increasing the soundstage and making it more precise.

This 25 mm aluminum/magnesium driver offers exceptional clarity and articulation in the high frequencies.

TANNOY STIRLING GR-OW: TECHNOLOGY

The hand-wired crossover features exclusive Tannoy capacitors and low-loss laminated core inductors, providing a more natural and balanced sound.

Low resistance internal wiring maximizes signal transparency.

Specific damping panels are placed on the internal walls of the cabinet to minimize dynamic loss and limit internal colorations.

The Bass/Reflex design includes laminar vents that open vertically on each side of the baffle, providing superb bass extension.

Speaker cable connection is made at the rear of the speaker via a gold-plated dual terminal, allowing for bi-wiring or bi-amping.

A unique fifth terminal has been added, allowing the speaker to be grounded, reducing radio interference and improving midrange clarity.

The Tannoy Stirling GR-OW offers a front panel crossover adjustment behind the speaker grille, allowing for 5 different treble level settings.

This adjustment compensates for the acoustic characteristics of the listening room.

The speaker base is equipped with inserts for decoupling spikes, providing optimal stability. For polished floors and other delicate surfaces, metal cups are provided to be placed under the spikes.

TANNOY STIRLING GR-OW: INSTALLATION

For positioning, we followed the manufacturer's advice. The speakers should be placed so that the listening position is about 15° off the axes of the speakers. The axes of both speakers should cross at a point slightly in front of the listening position. Ideally, they should be used at least 1 meter from any side walls or reflective surfaces and at least 0.5 meters from the rear wall.

TANNOY STIRLING GR-OW: TEST AND LISTENING

As with most Tannoy Dual Concentric speakers, the Stirling GR-OW offers exceptional dynamics and speed. The Tannoy Stirling GR-OW floor-standing speakers also provide a superb, wide, precise, and very credible soundstage.

There is also excellent transparency combined with fine and subtle treble resolution. The treble is perfectly integrated with a magnificent midrange, offering impressive textures. The bass is present but also perfectly articulated. Double basses and bass drums are reproduced with excellent realism and surprising depth.

However, the Tannoy Stirling GR-OW requires precise installation to fully enjoy its capabilities. Once these precautions are taken, the performance is remarkable for its realism and musicality.
