The Sonus Faber Sonetto I G2 bookshelf speaker is the entry-level model in the Italian manufacturer's new G2 range, positioned between the Sonus Faber Lumina and Sonus Faber Olympica Nova series.

SONUS FABER SONETTO I G2: DESIGN

The design retains the distinctive boat-hull shape of the latest models, but with numerous modifications. As with all Sonus Faber speakers, the Sonetto I G2 is beautifully crafted, regardless of the chosen finish (Black Lacquer, Wenge, or Walnut). The speaker surrounds are covered in leather. The Sonetto I G2 is a 2-way bass-reflex speaker designed to be placed on a shelf, console, or dedicated stand (Sonus Faber Sonetto Stand G2).

SONUS FABER SONETTO I G2: DRIVERS

A 150 mm cellulose fiber driver has been chosen for reproducing the mid/bass range. The rubber surround is connected to the speaker cone by a unique floral pattern that envelops the cone structure. This asymmetrical shape breaks up the circular modes of the driver, ensuring greater linearity of movement and improving sound reproduction. This asymmetrical design reduces interference and enhances sound dispersion. It is paired with the excellent 28 mm DAD dome tweeter for handling high frequencies. To limit distortion and disturbances in the high frequencies, this tweeter is isolated from the speaker cabinet by a viscoelastic joint. It is crossed over at 2100 Hz. The bass-reflex port is located at the front and base of the speaker through a laminar vent, which is quite complex and seems to be initiated via a pseudo-horn. The base of the Sonetto I G2 is made of a concrete composite, enhancing speaker stability and reinforcing structural integrity. This innovative addition provides a rigid base that minimizes vibrations and ensures optimal performance. The connection to the amplifier is made through a beautiful double binding post, allowing for bi-wiring or bi-amplification. This post seems to be borrowed from the Sonus Faber Olympica range and allows for the connection of banana plugs or spades. The drivers can be concealed behind a rigid black Jersey grille (provided), attached via magnetic fasteners.

SONUS FABER SONETTO I G2: INSTALLATION

Setup is relatively easy. Of course, the best results will be obtained with the dedicated Sonetto speaker stands offered by Sonus Faber. The Sonetto I bookshelf speakers should be paired with a good amplifier to fully express themselves. They also do justice to excellent sources. Like all speakers in the Sonetto G2 collection, the Sonetto I benefits from a new bass-reflex port design, enhancing the simplicity and flexibility of speaker placement in the environment. Whether placed in a corner, against a wall, or in a bookshelf, the design allows for good results. However, placement is crucial for this type of speaker, and results can vary significantly based on placement optimization. The best results are achieved with the speakers on stands, spaced 2.5 meters apart and 50 cm from the rear wall.

The Sonus Faber Sonetto I G2 speakers are an ideal and high-performing solution for small spaces. They fill the listening room with ease, enthusiasm, and dynamism, offering a wide and three-dimensional soundstage. It’s easy to forget the speakers' size. The bass is not lacking; on the contrary, it is present and impactful while remaining perfectly controlled. It is paired with a beautiful midrange and an especially superb treble. The treble is precise and detailed without any harshness. However, the standout feature of these speakers is the quality and realism of the timbres. They are very beautiful and offer appreciable warmth. The Sonetto I G2 is a perfectly balanced bookshelf speaker, offering remarkable musicality while providing the listener with an immersive, nuanced, and subtle sound experience.
