Indiana Line Nota 550X tower speakers

The Indiana Line Nota 550X floor-standing speaker is the first in the manufacturer's range of speakers. It has been designed for small two-channel or multi-channel Hi-Fi setups, offering the capability to create a high-quality Hi-Fi system at an affordable price in medium-sized spaces ranging from 15 to 25 m².

INDIANA LINE NOTA 550X: FEATURES

This speaker is a 2.5-way design, meaning the bass driver operates in a wide-band configuration within its own enclosure. The low frequencies are handled by a 135mm polypropylene cone driver. The midrange is reproduced by another 135mm polypropylene cone driver, similar to the bass driver but with a different voice coil. It transitions to the tweeter through the excellent 26mm textile dome tweeter, consistent across the Nota range from the manufacturer.

The bass driver operates in a Bass Reflex configuration with a port located centrally on the front panel. This design choice allows the speaker to be positioned relatively close to the wall, avoiding floor proximity effects that can color the lower frequencies.

The crossover network is straightforward, utilizing air-core inductors and polypropylene capacitors to set crossover frequencies at 250 Hz and 2800 Hz.

Internal damping is provided by a high-purity non-woven synthetic foam known for effectively damping internal resonances.

Connection to the amplifier is via a high-quality gold-plated terminal that accepts bare wires or banana plugs.

INDIANA LINE NOTA 550X: INSTALLATION

We tested the Indiana Line Nota 550X with an amplifier delivering around 50 watts. We recommend placing them 2.5 meters apart and at least 30 cm away from the rear wall. Ideally, position them between 50 and 70 cm above the floor. They perform optimally in rooms sized between 15 and 25 m².

The benefit of a floor-standing speaker of this size is the extended bass response and added substance compared to bookshelf models. However, it requires an amplifier capable of providing sufficient current and power.

INDIANA LINE NOTA 550X: REVIEW AND LISTENING

From the first notes of music, we were struck by the quality delivered by the Indiana Line Nota 550X speakers. They inherit the qualities of the Nota 260X but with a surprising impact in the bass. Kick drums are physically reproduced, felt deep in the body. The Nota 550X speakers provide weight, scale, and depth to the music.

The midrange appears more detailed, with voices benefiting from enhanced presence and depth compared to lower models. They are reproduced cleanly and transparently. The midrange is dynamic and well-defined, with instruments clearly separated and articulated.

The tweeter seamlessly integrates with the other frequencies, delivering plenty of detail without excessive brightness, but with a pleasing smoothness. Instrument separation is excellent, occasionally very impressive for speakers priced under 700 euros! String instruments are detailed with excellent texture.

Regardless of the music genre, they effortlessly fill the room with sound, showcasing all the qualities of the Indiana Line Nota 260X but with a more expansive soundstage and increased impact and substance in the lower frequencies.

Overall, their performance exceeds their price point, offering incredible and unexpected quality, surpassing the average products in this price range.
