Fyne Audio F302i tower speakers

After the well-deserved success of the Fyne Audio F302 tower speakers, the Scottish manufacturer undertake a complete rebirth of its best-seller product, which becomes the F302i.

FYNE AUDIO F302I: CHARACTERISTICS

The new Fyne Audio F302i tower speakers use the previous model’s characteristics, but with an evolution of the tweeter. Moreover, they keep the “2-way” principle from the Fyne Audio F301 bookshelf speakers, all in a tower configuration.

This addition in terms of load allows it to offer a better response in the low end of the spectrum and to improve the output. As a matter of fact, it reaches 90 dB and the bandwidth extends in the bass at 36 Hz (-6dB).

We also note a higher power handling than the bookshelf model (40 – 180 w). The Fyne Audio F302i were developed for stereo but also multichannel operation. They allow the setting up of a little Hi-Fi system or a quality Home Cinema without spending too much.

The connection to the amplifier is done through a simple but high quality terminal block. It is compatible with both bare wires and bananas. The speakers lie on a plinth formed of 2 bars equipped with decoupling spikes. The speaker grille (Bass/mid-range) is magnetically attached in front of the speaker. If you remove it, it can also be attached at the back of the speaker.

FYNE AUDIO F302I: SPEAKERS

We have here the same 150 mm mid-range/bass multifibre driver from the Fyne Audio F301 pair of speakers. It is loaded with a large volume of Back Bass/Reflex.

In high frequencies, it is associated with a new 25 mm titanium dome tweeter. This tweeter is hidden in front of a protective grid which is also used as a diffuser. This new tweeter allows to expend the response in high frequencies up to 34 kHz! It goes without saying that the filtration system was revised and improved.

FYNE AUDIO F302I: TESTING AND LISTENING

We have here the same perfect balance of the previous model which makes these speakers really versatile in terms of musical genres. They don’t try everything, yes, but what they do, they do just right!

The treble was really improved. It offers clearer and more detailed highs than the old version. The broader bandwidth response offers a more analytic but also dynamic the high end of the spectrum. By placing the tower speaker more or less close to the wall, we get a good compromise between the extent of the restitution and the articulation in bass.

Despite their size, these F302i tower speakers are able to reproduce remarkable low frequencies. The bass stays tense and dynamic, without leaving its part of the spectrum.

The depth of the lower frequencies can also be enjoyed at a low volume where they are more discreet on bookshelf speaker models. Moreover, everything is perfectly in tune with mid-range and treble sounds. The overall restitution seems more nuanced and subtle than with the previous model: Fyne Audio seems to have corrected all these little defects.

The Fyne Audio F302i tower speakers are surely one of the best tower speakers in this price range. It is rare to find tower speakers of this quality at such a price. Our personal favourite!
