This new Chora line succeeds the line of Focal Chorus speakers. This one has been a reference in its range for many years.
The Chora series has the particularity to be built around a new speaker and a new slate-colored membran, called “Slatefiber” by the manufacturer.
The Chora series is represented by 3 models of Hi-Fi speakers: two towers and one bookshelf. They offer a modern design quite different from the previous range. The Focal Chora 826 is a Bass reflex 3-way speaker.
The Slatefiber technology, exclusive to the Focal manufacturer, consists of non-woven recycled carbon fibres, placed in sandwich between two layers of thermoplastic polymer.
In their quest for perfection, Focal engineers decided to use non-woven carbon fibres, all oriented in the same direction in order to have even greater rigidity and better damping.
Made in France using a very sophisticated industrial tool, this very light membrane with a "slate" effect, allows you to obtain more damping and rigidity than a cellulose membrane.
The membrane is protected thanks to a metal grid.
The bass membrane transducer is loaded in Bass/Reflex via a port on the front panel of the Focal Chora 826 speaker. It is associated to a mid-range speaker of the same technology processing the band between 270 and 2700 hz.
It is relayed in the high frequencies by an aluminium/magnesium TNF tweeter.
The suspension of this transducer connects the dome to its Poron support. This shape memory suspension is similar to the famous Utopia Beryllium tweeter. The inverted dome limits directivity and increases spatialization.
Bass and midrange drivers are concealed behind a magnetic cloth cover with circular edges.
This tower speaker is perfect for rooms of at least 25 m². It is based on an inclined stand to respond to “Time Alignment” and provides a more accurate and a sound scene more centered to the listener.
This support receives spikes in order to decouple the speaker as much as possible from the ground.
The connection to the amplifier is via a simple and well-made terminal block, that accepts bare wire, banana plugs or forks.
After about twenty hours of running-in, we can say that the restitution of these Focal Chora 826 speakers is surprisingly open and full.
The impact in the bass and the quality of the bass are certainly related to that. It is very realistic on a double bass or an orchestral mass. It is present without doing too much. And above all, it disappears when necessary.
Note also a superb balance between the registers that gives them an excellent versatility in the face of different musical styles.
The Chora 826 speakers are dynamic and very articulated, bringing light to details with ease.
The mid-range/treble is clear and open. It offers a lot of nuance and presence. The top of the spectrum, as always with Focal, is clear and perfectly integrated with the mid-range.
We also find a magnificent sound scene, both wide and deep, but also very precise. The placement of musicians is perfectly respected.
The quality/price ratio of these Focal Chora 826 tower speakers is remarkable, mostly when you know that they are French!
