After the worldwide success of the Bronze range, Monitor Audio has developed a new, more affordable range, while maintaining the DNA that made the Bronze range so successful. The Monitor Audio Monitor 200 tower speakers are part of this Monitor range.
MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 200: DESIGN AND CONNECTIONS
In order to save money, a simpler and less complex cabinet making and assembly in comparison to superior ranges has been adopted.
The other components that make up these speakers offer a quality similar to that of the Bronze range, or even identical.
The Monitor 200 are equipped with outrigger feet with decoupling points that improve the stability of the speaker and take up less floor space.
These small tower speakers are available in a black, white, or walnut vinyl finish.
The Monitor 200 features two sets of binding terminals for a bi-wiring or bi-amp setup. Honestly, I do not think that this is necessary on Hi-Fi speakers of this range. We are in favour of using one wiring of good quality rather than a bi-wiring of bad quality. These plated gold speaker terminals accept banana plugs or bare wire.
MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 200: TWEETER AND WOOFER
The high end of the spectrum is ensured by a 25mm dome tweeter. It is exactly the same as the one found in the Bronze range of Monitor Audio. It is gold-plated in C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium). It has continuously received many awards for its qualities of finesse and timbre.
Despite its three loudspeakers, it is a 2.5-way speaker.
The midrange is ensured by a 13 cm loudspeakers with a MMP II driver cone. This loudspeakers is recognizable due to its orange driver cone. The bass/reflex load is ensured by a HiVe II port technology on the back of the speaker.
The bass is ensured by another 13 cm woofer with a MMP II driver cone. This woofer is associated to a second bass/reflex load that is ensured by a second HiVe II port technology on the back of the Hi-Fi speaker.
MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 200: TESTING AND LISTENING
Despite their modest size, these Monitor 200 tower speakers offer a punchy and percussive sound restitution. The dynamics are excellent, even with modest power amplifiers. The tonal balance is excellent and contributes to the realism of the restitution.
The Monitor 200 tower speakers offer a beautiful soundstage which is ample and relatively precise. The bass is deep but articulate and precise even on complex music.
MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 200: UNBOXING AND SETTING UP
The Monitor 200 are the smallest tower speakers designed by Monitor Audio. These elegant small tower speakers were designed to be used in small to medium sized rooms.
In addition to their vintage look, the Monitor Audio Monitor 200 tower speakers offer a musicality that will enable to build a performing Hi-Fi system in the pure Hi-Fi tradition of the English manufacturer. All of this, in a budget which seems to be without any competitors.
