Monitor Audio Monitor 100 bookshelf speakers

After the worldwide success of the Bronze range, Monitor Audio has developed a new, more affordable range, while maintaining the DNA that made the Bronze range so successful. The Monitor Audio Monitor 100 bookshelf speakers are part of this Monitor range.

MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 100: DESIGN AND CONNECTIONS

In order to save money, a simpler and less complex cabinet making and assembly in comparison to superior ranges has been adopted.

The other components that make up these speakers offer a quality similar to that of the Bronze range, or even identical.

The Monitor 100 are available in a black, white, or walnut vinyl finish.

The Monitor 100 features two sets of binding terminals for a bi-wiring or bi-amp setup. Honestly, I do not think that this is necessary on Hi-Fi speakers of this range. We are in favour of using one wiring of good quality rather than a bi-wiring of bad quality. These plated gold speaker terminals accept banana plugs or bare wire.

MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 100: TWEETER AND WOOFER

The 25mm dome tweeter is exactly the same as the one found in the Bronze range of Monitor Audio. It is gold-plated in C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium). It has continuously received many awards for its qualities of finesse and timbre.

The low midrange is ensured by a superb 17cm woofer with a MMP II driver cone. This woofer is recognizable due to its orange driver cone.

The bass/reflex load is ensured by a HiVe II port technology providing a better transient response and tighter bass. Although it is on the back of the Hi-Fi speaker, it has been damped so that you can place your Monitor 100 relatively close to a wall.

MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 100: TESTING AND LISTENING

Despite their modest size, these Monitor Audio Monitor 100 bookshelf speakers offer a punchy and percussive sound restitution. The dynamics are excellent, even with modest power amplifiers. The tonal balance is excellent and contributes to the realism of the restitution.

The Monitor 100 speakers seem a little more expressive and less neutral than Monitor Audio Bronze 2 speakers. However, they seem to be simpler to drive since they are less demanding.   

MONITOR AUDIO MONITOR 100: UNBOXING AND SETTING UP

The Monitor Audio Monitor 100 speakers were designed to be used in relatively small spaces.

In addition to their vintage look, the Monitor Audio Monitor 100 bookshelf speakers offer a musicality that will enable to build inexpensive but performing Hi-Fi systems.
