The Focal Chorus 706 bookshelf speakers are a fine showcase of French brand Focal's expertise in producing compact and affordable speakers. They are also one in a long line of 2-way monitor speakers, now well represented by the Utopia range and the superb SOPRA 1.
The design of the Chorus 706 speaker is classic and understated, but leaves you in no doubt as to the quality of its production. On the front is a 16.5cm Polyglass driver, which is connected to a front-firing bass reflex port located just underneath the driver on the speaker face. The treble is taken care of by an inverted dome tweeter with a 25mm aluminium/magnesium membrane. All of the drivers use an OPS filter, which reduces distortion and ensures the speakers are as much in phase as possible. On the back of the speaker is a simple but high quality terminal, which can be used to connect stripped cables and banana and fork connectors.
The sound quality of these speakers seems to directly contradict the price you pay for them. When combined with a decent little British integrated amplifier (e.g. the Rega Brio R integrated amp), it delivers unrivalled realism and precision for a product in this range! They boast remarkable fluidity and ease, as well as sophisticated neutrality and impressive realism. But the real star of the Focal Chorus 706 speakers is undeniably the quality of the timbres, which are as close to perfection as you can get for a speaker of this price! And the depth, articulation and precision of the bass is sure to satisfy even the biggest of bassheads!
To get the most out of these speakers, we recommend positioning them on a 60cm-high surface or, even better, on the brand’s dedicated speaker stand, the Focal Chorus S700.
