The Legacy is the British manufacturer's higher-end MC cartridge. In recent years, it has won many awards from the specialist press. The weight, tracking force and compliance (16) make it compatible with most high-quality tonearms. This very low output variant (0.25 mV/100 Ohms) must be paired with a high quality MC phono preamplifier.
The Stylus has an extremely complex and precise elliptical profile, the 'Vital Fine Line'. This one is almond-shaped and perfectly tracks the groove, allowing for amazing tracking and very low surface noise. The aluminium cantilever has a conical design. The stylus/cantilever assembly is fairly light, which makes it very swift. Goldring has opted for powerful neodymium/boron magnets to reduce the iron content and therefore reduce the overall weight. The coils use a conductor made of the highest quality copper. They are wound and checked by hand!
The outstanding stiffness of the part is provided by the body cast in magnesium. This 'high tech' material also minimises mechanical energy losses, reduces resonance and the weight of the cartridge to 8 g. The low weight combined with the compliance make it readily compatible with light and medium weight tonearms like Rega, Pro-Ject and Linn Ekos tonearms, to name a few... Its rounded design is stylish, but during assembly, the alignment becomes quite a delicate task. However, threaded inserts allow for high precision and good quality clamping.
Goldring's Legacy delivers a very neutral and precise sound quality. The mids are very elegant and authentic with a rich timbre. The treble is very soft and shows no harshness and distortion. The sound stage is amazing, it stretches out across the entire spectrum with ease and precision. It boasts a very rich and precise timbre. It is very versatile, it did a great job with rock, jazz and classical music. But it quite amazing with Folk and acoustic music. In our opinion, the Legacy is a very pleasant surprise and a top pick in its category…
