The Focal Elegia headphones is the first closed headphone offered by the French manufacturer.
All the experience acquired in the field of audio headphones, combined with the "studio" activity of the manufacturer, has enabled Focal to offer closed headphones with amazing performances!
For this high-end circum-aural headphone, Focal has gathered the best of the latest technologies developed among others for the Focal Elear headphones.
FOCAL ELEGIA: SPEAKERS
The Elegia integrates the last generation of broadband speakers. They have been designed to work into enclosed volume, while ensuring an exceptional dynamic and a precise and less colored sound restitution.
The Elegia speakers are a bunch of innovation. The copper coil is used without support and the suspension has a mass of only 110 microns.
The membrane is a “M” profile inverted dome. This one, manufactured in Focal’s plant in St-Etienne, is made of aluminium/magnésium of 40 mm! It is a global exclusivity and a patent for the brand.
FOCAL ELEGIA: ARCH
The aluminium arch of the Elegia perfectly fit the head, while giving an optimal clamping.
The 20 mm-thick pad as well as the yoke are made of shape memory microfibre. The materials used, the leather, the massive aluminium and the microfibre are all of an excellent quality.
The Focal Elegia perfectly isolates from outside noise and the environment without having to resort to (and so much the better!) an active noise suppression.
FOCAL ELEGIA: CABLE AND ACCESSORIES
The very pure copper wire is offered in 1.20 m (movable use obliges!). It is completely removable.
On the earpiece side, it is connected via two lockable 3.5mm Mono Jack. On the other end, Focal opted for a 3.5 stereo jack, but supplied a 6.33mm stereo adapter.
The all is delivered in a high quality and rigid carrying case that perfectly protects the audio headphone.
FOCAL ELEGIA: TEST AND LISTENING
As all headphones or speakers, the musicality is linked to the quality of the source and the used support. We simply tested it on a MacBook with Qobuz.
The Elegia offers a wide and very spacious restitution. The auditor is quickly immerged in music.
The bass is deep, very nuanced and articulated. The timbres are nice and without aggression. By the way, and it is significantly, the balance is softer than on most of the Hi-Fi headphones of this range. And this without attenuating the top of the spectrum which remains clear and sufficiently precise.
Used with audiophile movable players, the Elegia also offers excellent performances. No coloring disturbs the reproduction, which is done with a very convincing naturalness and realism.
The Focal Elegia Hi-Fi headphones is part of the best close headphone we have ever tested. However, this technology has its limits and constraints. It seemed a little less precise and dynamic than the Focal Elear. However, it is not dedicated to the same use and the same consumer, you had understood it.
If you are looking for a movable headphone offering wide and elegant audiophile restitution, the Elegia is made for you! It is the best product in terms of comfort and design!
