The Pro-Ject Debut III Record Master vinyl turntable isn’t technically a brand new product... The original model was realised in 1990, and has done nothing but age gracefully with the changes made to it ever since.
This Record Master has all the same basic features as the most recent Debut 3 model.
However, it also has the same new motor and electronic speed change mechanism as the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB. This lets you can change between 33⅓ and 45 rpm electronically – no need to remove the platter to change the drive belt!
Now you'll only need to do this for 78 rpm records, in which case you'll also have to replace the stylus with an Ortofon OM 78.
The platter is a heavier version of the die-cast aluminium platter found on the 1-Xpression III, with a diameter of 30cm – compared to the previous model’s 28cm – and a folded steel body.
It has the same excellent aluminium tonearm which has been a tried and tested model for over a decade!
This is attached to the renowned and efficient Ortofon 2M Red cartridge.
The Pro-Ject Debut III Record Master turntable is also fitted with an integrated USB phono preamp.
This means it doesn’t require a phono input – you can connect it directly to the Aux input on your amplifier or amplified speakers.
At the same time, it is also possible to connect it to your PC or Mac via USB if you wish to convert your records into digital format.
In terms of sound quality, it has all the strengths that made the Debut III such a success, but with noticeable improvements in dynamic range and depth.
This Debut III Record Master is streets ahead of the Essential II Phono USB in terms of precision and definition. And the bass is significantly tighter and deeper than earlier models.
It is also exceptionally user-friendly for a vinyl turntable in this price range.
We instantly fell in love with the Walnut finish because of the vintage feel it gives this Record Master turntable!
Highly recommended!
