Audio Technica's AT 120Eb cartridge ranks amongst the Japanese manufacturer's Best Buys. It partially features the innovations and technology developed for the AT150. Though a level of compromise had to be reached to make its price affordable.
It features the elliptical stylus of the AT 100 , which is integrally mounted to the aluminium cantilever instead of being bonded. The motor consists of twin magnets that use the 'VM' technology and para-toroidal coils that use high purity PCOCC copper conductors. The structure is entirely designed to minimise vibrations in the cartridge body to make playback as precise and clear as possible. The connectors are gold-plated. Its weight, tracking force and very high compliance make it compatible with lightweight and very lightweight tonearms.
Reproduction is very detailed, open and vibrant. The frequency response is very wide for a cartridge in this range. Surface noise and distortion are minimal, allowing for more transparency. Audio Technica's AT 120Eb cartridge will neatly suit turntables with a rather dull and imprecise sonic quality. A great MM cartridge and a perfect alternative to Ortofon cartridges and Grado and at a highly attractive price.
