MC transformer

The use of a transformer is necessary if you have a phono input or a phono preamplifier dedicated solely to high-level cells (MM) and you wish to use a low-level cell (MC). This element is very simple: it consists of two coils, stereo coils, which act as voltage boosters. Their gain is expressed in decibels (between 20 and 30 dB). It is essential to check that they are compatible with the cartridge (impedance). The quality of the winding and wire used influences the quality of reproduction. It is also advisable to use the cable supplied with the transformer to connect it to the preamplifier, or to use a specific cable as this also has a considerable influence on bandwidth, tonal balance and transparency.
