Description

The Viard Platinium HD AES/EBU is the flagship of the French manufacturer's digital range.

Viard Platinum HD AES/EBU : Technology

The difference with the Silver HD range lies in the single-strand Solid Core conductors. Made from pure Cu-VHQ copper, they are combined with protection against external interference thanks to a double shielding developed specifically for the Platinium range. This shielding relies on a high-coverage double braid combining copper and silver. The goal is to deliver the most faithful signal transmission possible, adding nothing and removing nothing. The Viard Platinium HD AES/EBU is fitted with carbon and chrome XLR connectors offering 24k gold-plated contacts. The cable is sheathed in a very supple white woven silicone jacket, with a damping ring machined from AU-4G aluminium at one end.

Viard Platinum HD AES/EBU : Sound

From the very first bars, its great transparency stands out. This cable reveals a wealth of micro-detail and reverberation. The soundstage is deep and its different planes remain highly legible, with perfect stability and superb instrumental focus. The bass is firm, fast, taut and well articulated. The treble favours finesse and air over any artificial brightness, paired with a very natural midrange and organic voices free of excess warmth. The dynamics feel highly realistic: level shifts are reproduced with ease while preserving an excellent sense of fluidity. A reference.

FAQ: Everything you need to know before buying the Viard Audio Platinium HD AES/EBU digital cable

What is this cable for and how do I connect it?

It carries the digital audio signal between two devices fitted with AES/EBU sockets, for example between a transport or network player and a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC). One end of its XLR connectors plugs into the digital output of the source, the other into the converter's input.

Why does a 110-ohm impedance matter?

The AES/EBU standard requires a 110-ohm impedance along the whole length of the cable. The Platinium HD respects this value precisely, allowing the digital signal to travel without reflection or loss. This is your guarantee of faithful transmission, adding nothing to and taking nothing from the music.

Which length should I choose, 1.0 or 1.5 metre?

It depends solely on the distance between your source and your converter. The 1.0 m version suits devices sitting close together on the same rack; the 1.5 m version gives more installation freedom when your components are further apart. Both lengths share exactly the same design.

What sets its build apart?

It is designed and assembled in France. Its pure Cu-VHQ Solid Core conductors, its copper-and-silver double shielding and its carbon/chrome XLR connectors with 24k gold-plated contacts are all made to preserve the full signal. The white woven silicone sheath and the machined aluminium damping ring complete a beautifully finished cable.
