Not content with just being a run-of-the-mill CD player, the Rega Saturn R also doubles up as a digital-to-analogue converter. In fact, the Rega Saturn R CD player boasts several digital inputs: 2 S/PDIF coaxial inputs, 2 Toslink optical inputs and 1 asynchronous USB (type B) input (24 bits/192 KHz). This input is powered by the computer it is connected to. There are 3 LED lights next to the USB input. The first (Power) indicates when the computer is powering the USB input, the second (Comm) indicates when the USB port is active and in communication with the computer, and the third (Dta) indicates when data is being transferred to the USB, e.g. when a track is playing through a media player or internet radio station.
The Toslink optical digital DAC output and coaxial S/PDIF digital DAC output, which are for the DAC, serve several functions, such as connecting the CD player to a digital recording device. It also has a Toslink optical digital output and coaxial S/PDIF digital output for the CD player functions.
All of the Rega Saturn R CD player's basic functions can be controlled via the buttons on the front panel. Its other functions, such as the DAC mode, require the Solaris remote control to be used. This CD player has 5 filters that can be adjusted to suit your tastes.
On the front panel you'll find the on/off switch, display and four control buttons (Play/Pause, Skip Forward, Skip Backwards, and Stop). The front panel is made of two striking solid aluminium pieces. The Topaz CD10 is a top-loading CD player, with a sensor that detects when the mechanism is open and stops it from functioning when the cover is not closed.
This CD player reproduces your favourite music with delicacy and subtlety. In fact, it has a similar timbre quality to a good vinyl turntable. Each instrument is perfectly distinct, giving your music a real sense of spaciousness. Its impressive articulation and nuance often result in intense moments of authenticity and musicality.
The Rega Saturn R CD player has been roundly lauded in the industry press and has received several prizes for being the best CD player/DAC in its category. A must-have!
