Transfiguration was founded in 1992 by Mr Seiji Yoshioka, an engineer and analogue technology enthusiast. Building on his experience and expertise in moving coil cartridges, he soon applied his fundamental research work to the products and primarily showed that these cartridges feature an asymmetric architecture due to the distance and off-centring of the magnet with respect to the coils. Using two innovative concepts Mr Yoshioka was able to overcome this defect and marketed the AF-1. The models that followed, the TEMPER, got such an acclaim from the specialist press and music lovers that they were considered the world's best and most expensive cartridges for a long time! Currently, Transfiguration cartridges and their innovations have been replicated, but they remain a worldwide benchmark and are often considered as the best on the market and are not the most expensive by a long run.
