When it was marketed in 1995, Lehmann Audio’s Black Cube soon became a true legend for analogue lovers. This Lehmann Audio Decade phono preamp clearly aims to bridge the gap between the great Black Cube SE II and the manufacturer's benchmark Silver Cube…
Lehmann Audio Decade: housing
Lehmann Audio Decade's design with two equally sized units make it immediately recognisable. They boast a beautiful brushed aluminium front panel with a natural or black finish.
The housing and power supply housing are crafted in a special non-magnetic aluminium alloy that has undergone antiresonance treatment to minimise microphonics.
The front panel features three micro-switches for the selection of the bass filter (subsonic), gain and MM/MC position respectively. They act on precision relays that switch their values.
Lehmann Audio Decade: circuit
The circuit has two new input stages inspired by the professional industry. It uses the same components as those used on micro preamps and studio consoles.
The RIAA curve equalization and correction are entirely passive. It uses MKT capacitors and resistors with high precision, low tolerance and low noise metal layers.
For compatibility with ALL cartridges, the gain and impedance selection are completely separate and adjustable.
Lehmann Audio Decade: power supply
To allow the system to operate perfectly, Lehmann Audio has added a mighty PWX 2 power supply unit!
It is oversized with respect to its role and is associated with a great 30 VA toroid transformer that typically features a grounded winding, for full primary and secondary isolation.
Filtering is done by high value chemical capacitors and a precision regulation circuit, which delivers a stable voltage.
This power supply unit is key to the musicality and performances of the Lehmann Audio Decade.
Lehmann Audio Decade: listening and review
When switched on for twenty hours and following a break-in period of a few days, this phono preamplifier boasts rare musicality!
