This Cambridge Audi Alva TT turntable is not a new excursion into analogue, since the manufacturer had already launched a turntable few years ago.
But this is the first time Cambridge Audio has offered such a developed product!
The Alva TT has a quite traditional shape. However, it gives confidence by its mass and rigidity.
The top of the plinth is covered with an aluminium plate of the same design as the front panels of the Alva range of products.
The platter is made of Polyoxymethylene (POM), which gives an excellent density and sufficient mass to ensure good inertia.
The designers of the Cambridge Audio Alva TT have discontinued the idea of a belt drive system, in favor of a mid-torque direct drive. This was motivated by the research for a very low wow and flutter (0.06%.).
The combination of the heavy platter and mid-torque direct drive ensures perfect speed stability.
Of course, the rotation is entrusted to a microprocessor and a double oscillator. This one ensures 33 and 45 rpm speeds.
The Cambridge Audio Alva TT is equipped with a British 9” tonearm. Indeed, you do not have to be an expert to recognize the famous Rega RB250 tonearm.
This tonearm is known for its accuracy and musicality.
It is associated as standard with the Cambridge Audio Alva MC cartridge. This cartridge is a high output MC cartridge. Even if it is really made for Cambridge Audio, we recognized a derivative of the Sumiko Blue Point cartridge... It is rather an advantage, because this cartridge is also a reference in musicality!
The integrated phono preamplifier has been specifically made to measure for the Alva TT. It is inspired by the Alva Solo and the Duo Phono.
A Bluetooth aptX HD converter has been combined to it. The music can be played from the Alva TT to any HD Bluetooth receiver up to 24 bit/48 kHz.
The using of this vinyl turntable is very simple, even if it goes through a phase of precise setting of the phono cartridge and the tonearm.
Then, you just have to connect it to an Aux or Line input of your amplifier, or connect it in Bluetooth if you do not have other choices. The last one is, on this turntable, probably the best one offered by the manufacturer today.
The Cambridge Audio Alva TT is the "Rolls" of Bluetooth turntables and the result meets the means invested. The wired connection remains, as always, better on all registers.
The restitution is full and very analogical in the true sense of the word. The lack of noise and the rotation stability enable all reproduction of nuances and subtlety.
Articulation and timbre are excellent, as well as the balance.
The Cambridge Audio Alva TT turntable shows the know-how of the manufacturer and is like an “UFO” by offering a connected and high-end turnkey solution. For these reasons, it is unrivalled!
