As the name suggests, the Chario Segunda bookshelf speakers are the second model in Chario’s new Reflex range.
Chario Segunda : Design and Connections
The Segunda has the same popular aesthetic and structure as its little sister, the TERZA, with just a bit more added bulk.
We’re big fans of its original vintage look and finish, which you don't often see in speakers in this price range. But don’t be fooled by this old school exterior – this is a genuine audiophile bookshelf speaker with more than few innovative features inside the cabinet !

Its terminal is also fairly original. As with most speakers, this Chario model accepts either banana plugs or stripped wires, but it strongly recommends a different option: insert the stripped cable into the centre of the terminal, fold it like an umbrella, then tighten up the front of the terminal! It’s a simple and effective system.

Chario Segunda : Tweeter
On the front panel is a 12.5cm midwoofer for the bass and a 2-inch tweeter for the treble.
There is a bass reflex system underneath the cabinet, which rests on cones so as to leave a gap for the port opening.
And the back of the cabinet is even more impressive! It features two more 2-inch tweeters made using WallRad Shallow Conex technology. They have a specific filtering system and optimised positioning to ensure that the sound is played with control from the back of the speaker.

This is not new technology – it has been and continues to be used by several manufacturers, including Triangle, Mirage, Infinity and even Wilson Audio – but it is unusual to find it in Hi-Fi speakers of this size and price range. It is also more common for tower speakers to have just one tweeter.
Chario Segunda : Listening and test review
When combined with a high quality integrated amp, the sound quality of these speakers is expressive and impressive.
Overall the sound is very well-balanced and even. The timbre is excellent, as are the articulation and clarity.
It’s rare for a speaker of this size and category to deliver such a high quality bass.
But the most impressive part is the sound stage and scope of the sound quality, which remains full-bodied even at low volumes, comfortably filling the room with music. We don't have a bad word to say about the bright, present and realistic sound these speakers produce.
Chario Segunda : Unboxing and Setting up
Setting up these bookshelf speakers is an easy job. We recommend positioning them on a Hi-Fi cabinet or mount parallel to the wall behind it and at a distance of between 10 and 15cm, ideally with the tweeters at the listener's ear level.
And you'll get the best results by placing the speakers at a distance of 1.7 to 2.5m apart from each other.
Due to their balance and functioning, we don’t recommend using them in rooms with lots of space and echo – basically don't put them in a train station!
The Segunda bookshelf speakers are impressive in more ways than one, and aren’t bad to look at either!
The competition pales in comparison to their striking aesthetic and truly original technology. We’re big fans of their musicality, too, which is almost unheard of in this price range.
Another happy surprise and maPlatine.com top pick to add to Italian manufacturer Chario's collection!
Highly recommended!
