On the back of the enormous success of the SK-II antistatic brush, Furutech is now releasing the SK-III!
On the surface, it looks very similar to its predecessor, and more like a large make-up brush than a conventional record brush. But despite its fluffy appearance, the Furutech SK3 is right on the cutting edge technologically.
It is made from the hair of a rare species of Himalayan mountain goat, which is among the softest and finest in the world (<30 microns). This is an important detail because the width of a record groove can be anywhere between 25 and 120 microns, depending on the pressing. This hair possesses naturally antistatic properties, but Furutech have also added acrylic corona fibres into the mix to boost the effect. And this new model contains more of these fibres than the SK-II, which are set back 15mm from the tip of the brush. They have been chemically treated with copper sulphate, which helps them to absorb positive static energy. In fact, according to Furutech, this exchange of ions means that they can absorb static energy of up to 20,000V!
The body of the Furutech SK-III is made of wood and, like the SK-II before it, its rhodium-coated sleeve is made of metal.
It couldn't be easier to use: holding it by the sleeve, just brush the Furutech SK3 over your record. We recommend doing so when the record is turning on your turntable. Two rotations should be enough for the Furutech SK3 to do its job well! And the results are instantaneous. As well as removing dust from the record, it also gets rid of all static energy, resulting in a sound that is immediately more precise and less aggressive. It also seems to uncover a lot more detail! The manufacturer also recommends the brush for use on CDs, flat screens, equipment dust covers...basically anything that attracts static! We used it on the tonearm, cartridge, and platter of our vinyl turntable. And the results were incredible. Its antistatic properties are amazing, fully justifying its excellent reputation in this area. Music lovers around the world swear by it, and so do we! We’ve been fans for a long time.
It's also used by police forensic departments, so if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us! Franck
