The Pro-Ject CD Box RS CD transport is an extremely well-designed product. The CD Box RS CD transport is a fine showcase of Pro-Ject impressive digital expertise.
Pro-Ject CD Box RS: front panel
On the front panel the On/Off button sits next to a large blue display in the middle.
To the right of the display are a set of buttons for controlling the machine’s functions.
Pro-Ject CD Box RS: input and outputs
The Pro-Ject Box RS has 4 digital outputs, a coaxial S/PDIF output, a Toslink optical output, an i²S Sonic 2 Out (RJ45) and an AES/EBU output.
A Clock input is also available.
However, it should be noted at the Sonic output and Clock input can only be used with the Pro-Ject DAC Box RS or the Pro-Ject Pre Box RS Digital.
Pro-Ject CD Box RS: sampling rate
The default sampling rate for CDs is 44.1 kHz, but you can double this, and oversample it to 88.2 kHz. It is possible by using the included remote control.
If you use a DAC Box RS converter or a Pre Box RS Digital and connect it to the CD Box RS CD transport via the i²S Sonic 2 output and the Clock input, the sampling rate can reach 176.4 kHz. Which translates into exceptionally precise playback!
Pro-Ject CD Box RS: using
The Pro-Ject CD Box RS CD transport is a top-loading machine, with an aluminium magnetic clamp to firmly press the CD to the transport.
The Pro-Ject CD Box RS requires a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) in order to function.
When paired with a digital-to-analogue converter, the Pro-Ject Box RS CD transport transforms into a source that is bursting will musicality. We reckon it’s the best CD transport in its category! Franck
