The Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB phono preamplifier has the majority of the technical specifications of the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 phono preamplifier.
Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB: features
With this Phono Box DS2 USB, there are of course all the characteristics of a high end phono preamplifier: a very precise RIAA equalizer, a mono double circuit for an optimized separation of the channels, low noise components and circuit.
The whole is closed in an aluminium/metal sandwich casing which protects against vibrations and electromagnetic disturbances.
Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB: front panel and back panel
In the middle of the front panel there is a potentiometer which makes it possible to adjust with precision the output level for the recording.
On the back of the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB phono preamplifier there are two sets of RCA inputs and two knobs for the connection of the mass as well as a set of RCA inputs to connect an analogical auxiliary source. There is also an optical output (SPDIF) and a USB digital output. You can connect the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB phono preamplifier to the Aux input of your amplifier thanks to the analogical output.

Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB: connections
However, the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB benefits of various options including a USB output which makes it possible to record your vinyl records or analogical sources of high level (High resolution, DSD).
It is also possible to simultaneously connect two vinyl turntables with distinct settings just like the Pro-Ject Tube Box DS2 phono preamplifier offers. Each input is compatible with with MM and MC cartridges.
Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB: settings
It is possible to easily adjust the load resistance (10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 1k et 47kohms) as well as the load capacitance. Careful, the load capacitance at 0 is 47 pF! You will therefore have to add this value to the written numbers on the front panel, either 47 pF, 147 pF, 267 pF or 367 pF.

With the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB phono preamplifier, it is also possible to adjust the gain with values which will enable the combination with all MM cartridges and High Output MC cartridges and (almost) all Low Output MC cartridges (40, 45, 50, 60 et 65 dB).
If the USB output is not used, the push button “sampling rate” selects the digital output signal frequency for the optical output (48/96/192kHz).
If a USB is connected, and therefore active, the sampling frequency is adjusted from the computer to which it is connected. If the frequency is adjusted on 48, 96 or 192 kHz, the optical output is active and is adjusted on the same frequency as the USB. If you opt for a higher frequency (352,8 kHz or 384 kHz), the optical output will be deactivated. This will enable you to record at a DSD128 format. Please take into account that the frequency is indicated by the corresponding LED.
Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB: listening and review
The restitution is similar to the Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 phono preamplifier.
The obtained recordings are up to expectation. In terms of digitalization, we are getting closer to professional products.
The Pro-Ject Phono Box DS2 USB phono preamplifier is an atypical product which offers possibilities and performances without any competition.
