Atoll PR200 Signature preamplifier

The Atoll PR200 Signature preamplifier replaces the PR200 SE from the Norman manufacturer Atoll Electronique.

ATOLL PR200 SIGNATURE: FRONT PANEL

It features the same 4 mm brushed aluminium front panel as the Atoll IN100 Signature amplifier, as well as the 1.5 mm thick metal chassis. Overall rigidity is effective and allows to limit mechanical vibration.

Even though the PR200 Signature doesn’t heat as much as an amplifier, the top surface is perforated for enhanced dissipation.

The motorised volume potentiometer can be found in the centre. On the right, there are two buttons allowing to select the desired input. On the left, seven LEDs indicate the selected input.

All these adjustments are also accessible via the optional remote control.

There is also a 6.35 mm headphone jack.

ATOLL PR200 SIGNATURE: BACK PANEL

The back of the device provides five analogue terminals: one Tape output, one By-Pass input and two pairs of preamplifier outputs.

These two pairs allow to use either a power amplifier on a single output, or use both preamplifier outputs to connect two power amplifiers (bi-amplification).

It’s also possible to connect a subwoofer on one of these outputs.

The By-Pass input allows to connect the PR200 Signature to a processor or a Home-Cinema amplifier.

ATOLL PR200 SIGNATURE: CHARACTERISTICS

Inside, the structure of the preamplifier section is similar to the IN200 Signature integrated amplifier.

Atoll installed an attenuator for ALPS motorised potentiometers. The double-sided printed circuit board is made of nickel and gold. A 340 V toroidal transformer associated with a total of 32,914 pF worth of capacitors are in charge of the power supply.

All the stages are in dual mono and the manufacturer only uses discreet components.

ATOLL PR200 SIGNATURE: TESTING AND LISTENING

The Atoll PR200 Signature preamplifier allows to assemble a system composed of separate elements (affordable) with one or two AM200 Signature amplifiers for example.

The manufacturer’s characteristic dynamics, transparency and rigour are present. There are also a certain neutrality and excellent definition.

Not only is it perfect for Atoll amplifiers, you can also connect it to many devices from the competition.

The Atoll PR200 Signature preamplifier is an excellent preamplifier offered at a reasonable price and enabling the addition of an Atoll P100 phono board, the excellent Signature digital board or the Atoll remote control for SE range in option.
