Pro-Ject, like most leading manufacturers, firmly believes that power supply is paramount to an audio device. Alone it significantly contributes to the sound quality.
Striving for the best sound quality and optimum isolation for the Phono Box RS preamplifier, Pro-Ject has developed this great high-end Power Box RS Phono power supply unit. It really gives a mighty boost to their benchmark preamp.
Pro-Ject Power Box RS Phono: features
The Power Box Phono RS uses batteries to fully isolate the preamplifier from the power grid.
The housing accommodates a Lithium Polymer battery for each channel. The power supplied is pure and clean. The weaker the signals, the more sensitive they are! An MC phono preamplifier processes signals with amplitudes of less than one thousandth of a volt! The quality of the power supply unit directly affects the sound quality and its substance.
When Pro-Ject's Power Box Phono power supply unit is fully charged and connected to the Phono Box RS, it is fully isolated from current and voltage interferences and line noises.
When the battery voltage decreases and reaches the charge limit, the charger is connected automatically. The charge status is shown via a LED on the front panel.
Playback has no time restrictions, though the benefit of fully isolating the preamp from the mains is lost. The battery acts as a buffer and hence a filter, and the sound quality is far superior to a standard power adapter.
When charged, it runs for approx. 4 hours and the total charge time is about 4 hours.
Pro-Ject Power Box RS Phono: listening and review
The Power Box RS power supply completely transcends the sound quality of the Phono Box RS!
The dynamics span more evenly across the entire spectrum. It's as if a cloud had been lifted! Everything appears clearer and more coherent.
The level of detail is quite amazing. It cranks articulation and nuance up a notch! The music becomes more obvious!
A true upgrade for the Phono Box RS, which makes it one of the best phono preamplifiers in the range... Highly recommended! Franck
