This 2-Xperience Acryl DC manual turntable features the main elements that have contributed to the success of its predecessor: the 2-Xperience Acryl turntable. The chassis is made of an acrylic plate. This highly inert material has a very low resonance frequency and therefore has an excellent mechanical and acoustic neutrality. It rests on three cone-shaped feet that combine a TPE and aluminium sandwich.
The motor is a new low noise level that generates very little vibration. It is powered by an outboard DC transformer. An electronic circuit recreates a stable alternating current (50 Hz), fully insensitive to voltage fluctuations. To minimise the vibration transmitted to the plinth, the motor is suspended. The 2 kg platter is made up of MDF with a 4 mm coat of compressed vinyl. It is rectified with precision and turns perfectly true. The top spindle is threaded to accommodate the aluminium clamp (supplied). It holds the record firmly against the platter, making for a flatter surface, leading to great inertia. The tonearm is the famous Pro-Ject 9cc. It is made out of a single 9-inch carbon piece. The bearings are those used for the Evo range. It can hold cartridges between 8 and 15 g. Like all of Pro-Ject's tonearms, the anti-skating device is a small weight suspended to a nylon thread: a simple yet highly efficient solution. And to top it all, the 2Xperience Acryl turntable comes with a great moving magnet cartridge: Ortofon's new 2M Silver.
The tonearm leads are not captive. They are connected via gold-plated RCA connectors. It is therefore easy to upgrade the standard connectors to better models, like the manufacturer's 'Connect it'. Like all good turntables, setup requires a certain amount of care: a stable and perfectly level base
From the opening bars, we were impressed by the 'laid-back' quality of this turntable! In fact, unlike some of its competitors, it seems tamer and less exuberant! That is not a defect, rather a trait of character that seems to tend towards neutrality. The transparency is great and articulation is remarkable. The brass sections are beautiful, the tempo is very pronounced with cymbals reaching a very high pitch with a lot of subtlety and no harshness. The transient definition and quality seem to top the previous version. The timbres are very rich and precise. The bass reproduction is physical and very well articulated, irrespective of the music played. The soundstage is very consistent and perfectly places the instruments both in depth and width.
This is a beautiful turntable that cleverly unites design and musicality. It focuses on the melodic and natural aspect of the music, as well as on the instrument timbre. Highly recommended! Franck
