To develop this AM400 power amplifier, Atoll took great care to do everything perfectly by taking into account all technical, objective and subjective factors. Each component choice was made through listening and measure comparison.
ATOLL AM400: HOUSING
This impressive and massive power unit weighs almost 20 kg! This says a lot about the size of the power transformer.
The anodised aluminium front panel is shaped and manufactured in a 10 mm plate. It is associated with a 2 mm thick steel chassis.
The side heat sinks are manufactured in massive aluminium blocks that allow to absorb mechanical vibrations and ensure a perfect heat dissipation from the power transistors.
On the back of the amplifier , there are gold plated speaker output sockets selected due to their ability to render all the energy and micro-details from the audio signal without any alteration.
ATOLL AM400: CHARACTERISTICS
The power stages have 8 MOS-FET transistors per way which provide a significant amount of perfectly handled energy due to the carefully built audio stages.
The connection cables between the motherboard and the speaker outputs are made in silver plated deoxygenated pure copper and PTFE insulated. These cables are manufactured for Atoll according to specifications by one of the best French audio cable manufacturer.
The filter capacitors, with reduced series resistance, are made according to specifications by a leading expert. The total filtering capacity of the Atoll AM400 amplifier is 111,300 µF! A gigantic 1015 VA toroidal transformer is also associated to it!
All the decoupling capacitors have a polypropylene film structure and were selected through listening among all high-end series from the greatest manufacturers.
ATOLL AM400: TESTING AND LISTENING
In Bridge mono mode, the energy gain is enormous: this operation will suit every systems with a lot of energy needs.
The differential structure diagram allows to execute this transformation without affecting the musical nuances. On the contrary, the gain in “sound texture” provides an even more realistic listening.
This Atoll AM400 power amplifier is a “monster” of quality, musicality and stability. It can be associated with almost every pair of Hi-Fi speakers on the market.
