The Rotel A10 integrated amp is one in a long line of audiophile integrated amps released by the Japanese brand over the past 30 years. It has the same timeless aesthetic as the old Rotel RA-931, RA-01 and RA-05: a flat aluminium housing, available in silver or black, and an understated but comprehensive front panel. A large, fully analogue volume dial sits front and centre, flanked by source, monitor and balance selectors. Rotel is one of the few manufacturers to offer its customers a tonal adjustment function for the bass and treble, which can be disabled using the ‘On/Off’ button if you choose. The A10 also features a dial for selecting between Speakers A or B. To use this function, you must use two pairs of speakers with a minimum impedance of 8 Ohms each.
On the back panel of the A10 amp are 5 analogue inputs, including one MM phono input and one pre-out. On the front panel is a 3.5mm jack input for MP3 players and a headphone output, also in mini jack format. The speaker terminals are of a high quality and this amp accepts all good cables as well as banana connectors.
The sound quality is dynamic and highly expressive. We don’t have a bad word to say about it – everything is there and in its rightful place! The balance is excellent for a product in this range, without emphasising any register over another. The timbre is less bright than on earlier models. The phono input delivers excellent results when connected to an entry-level vinyl turntable with a classic cartridge such as the Ortofon 2M Red or Audio Technica AT120e.
The Rotel A10 is an excellent integrated amplifier for building an affordable and efficient Hi-Fi system. It is highly versatile and sufficiently neutral to be used with a wide variety of speakers within a €300-800 price range (per pair).
It is easy to use and delivers instant musical gratification. The comprehensive array of connectivity options and excellent phono input are significant strengths of this amp. We heartily recommend this impressive newcomer! Franck
