The Atoll AM50 power amplifier can reach up to 50W per channel. Like all products in Atoll’s IN range, it has an 8mm aluminium front panel and a 1.5mm metal housing. It has 2 inputs. One of these inputs can connect the AM50 to a preamplifier (e.g. the Atoll PR100 SE, the Atoll PR200 SE or the Atoll PR300), and one can be used for bi-amplification. This is because these preamplifiers have a dual preamplifier output. The AM50 amplifier can also be bridged to create a monoblock amp by flicking a switch located inside the device. You can also connect it to any integrated amplifier with a preamp output, and wherein this integrated amp will take on the functionality of a preamplifier. As all models in the Atoll IN SE2 range (integrated amplifiers) also feature a dual preamplifier output, it is also possible to use two AM50 Atoll power amps. Bi-amplification allows you to power your 2 Hi-Fi speakers separately, resulting in a significantly wider sound stage where each speaker is maximising its individual potential.
The speaker output terminals boast excellent production quality and can be used with fork and banana plugs as well as stripped cables. There is a protective fuse next to the mains power socket. The Atoll AM50 power amplifier also offers the function of a timer system for switching it on. A protective relay for the speakers and amplifier output stages (to protect against overcurrent) is activated a few seconds after it is switched on. The toroidal transformer can reach up to 160VA, for a total capacitance of 15,000µF.
The Atoll AM50 amplifier is most commonly used with an Atoll PR100 or PR200 preamplifier to achieve a generously wide sound stage and an overall sound quality with superior transparency and detail. And the option to bridge the AM50 SE amplifier to create a monoblock amp is one of its strongest assets, as using 2 power amplifiers really gives speakers the power they need to function at full capacity. This amplifier has the capacity to power a large number of different speakers. The AM50 SE stays true to the Atoll philosophy, delivering flawless tonal balance and spot-on timbres. Franck
